Finally, you can optionally define if the collider(s) should have the body type static by adding an s to the end of a line. The first part is the file name that you just published via PhysicsEditor followed by the width and the height of the image file, you used in PhysicsEditor. It consists of an example line that gives you the structure of the input:

Then open the qt_input.txt file, which is in the same directory. Now select “Publish” or “Publish As” and store the file in the same directory as the unzipped JSONtoVPla圜ollider.exe. Next, select the Lime + Corona (JSON) exporter format on the right side of the window (highlighted yellow in the screenshot below).

PHYSICSEDITOR INSTALL

If you haven’t done so, install PhysicsEditor now and import your sprites to make polygon shapes out of them.

PHYSICSEDITOR HOW TO

Read on for a step-by-step guide how to do that. This was the reason why I created a small tool in C# using the Newtonsoft Json.NET Library, which lets you convert the output of the PhysicsEditor to a Felgo PolygonCollider. But this would have been very time consuming and error prone… One possibility to solve this problem was to convert the output from another engine to Felgo by hand. The problem was that PhysicsEditor does not support Felgo by default yet, meaning that you can’t generate output that can be directly used in your Felgo game. To accomplish this we used the great Qt-based tool PhysicsEditor, from the same author as TexturePacker. So read on and download Niklas’ tool to add any physics polygons to your Felgo game.Īs you know from my last post, we needed to create quite complex colliders for our hill elements at HighJump 2014. You can download PhysicsEditor free here.Since the last guest post from Niklas Hösl, one of the creators of the ski jumping game HighJump 2014, we have received many requests asking how they imported the physics shapes into their game. With PhysicsEditor, it takes only a few clicks to create precise collision shapes, for almost any game engine. You will encounter a few restrictions, if you don't register the software. PhysicsEditor supports a good number of game engines, which can be adjusted separately.

PHYSICSEDITOR SOFTWARE

The software allows you to make numerous settings to fine tune your shape. You may create a collision shape just by selecting an object. PhysicsEditor works with many physics-supporting game engines, such as Adobe Flash, Cocos2d iPhone, AndEngine, Moai and others. You can choose from a wide variety of game engines, before you export your collision shape. It is possible to change the shape's density, restitution, friction and more. The software allows you to set up various physics parameters on the right side of the interface. This can be useful if you want to create a collision shape for a specific part of an object, like a spear's tip. It is also possible to manually draw a collision shape by inserting and resizing triangles.

You can drag the shape to a different location and you may click and drag its anchor points, to edit the shape. When you return to the main interface, you will find the collision shape placed over the object.

PHYSICSEDITOR SERIES

You can make a series of adjustments, on the same window, to set a tolerance level, trace mode and more. If you click the object, the software will select it according to the image's transparency. When you start this feature, the loaded image will be displayed on a separate window. Once your image is loaded and selected, you may click a button, located above the main editing area, to launch the automatic shape tracing feature. The software allows you to import multiple images and select them from a list, on the left side of the interface. Although PhysicsEditor supports the JPG image format, you should load PNG files with transparent backgrounds. You can load your shape like any other image. Furthermore, you don't need a powerful processor or a large amount of RAM to run this program.Ĭreating a collision shape is a straightforward procedure, which you may complete in a few simple steps. The installed software uses only 51 MB of disk space, even if you decide to install templates and examples during the setup process. PhysicsEditor is available for Windows and Mac platforms. This means that you may create your collision shapes in just a few seconds. The software's main advantage is the fact that it can automatically trace any two-dimensional object. If you are working on your own 2D game, you can use PhysicsEditor to create collision shapes. For example, if there were no collision shapes in Angry Birds, you wouldn't be able to demolish anything, no matter how many birds you launch. When you throw or launch an object in a game, a collision shape must be present, otherwise your object will pass through the environment, instead of hitting something.
